Ile de 5000 habitants. La partie sud de l'île, la Côte Sauvage de l'Île d'Yeu est interdite de construction ; elle comporte en particulier un château fort dit « le Vieux-château », datant du XIIe siècle, monté sur un éperon rocheux détaché de la falaise. Il aurait inspiré à Hergé le château de Ben More, dans L'Île Noire. L'île comporte de nombreux menhirs, dolmens et pierres à cupules. L'Ile d'Yeu est une terre vivante, conviviale, envoûtante. Les amoureux de la mer ont un jour envie d'y jeter l'ancre ne serait-ce qu'un moment.
